The Italian game company, Digital Bros., has purchased the intellectual property rights to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the debut action title from Chengdu Lingze Technology Co. Ltd. Digital Bros. is the parent company of 505 Games, which published the title, which was released on July 25, 2025, with the rights being acquired for around $4.6 million. This secures the company “full ownership” of the Soulslike action RPG and guarantees them all future royalties.
The intellectual property rights of a product, such as a game, allow a person or company to patent, trademark, or copyright-protect something created, especially if the asset is an intangible one. In particular, in this case, it can be narrative or mechanics present in a video game like this. Gamers might be most familiar with the concept in recent gaming history through the legal controversy between Nintendo and Pocketpair over the latter’s Pokémon-style game Palworld.
Digital Bros. has stated that Wuchang: Fasllen Feathers demonstrated “strong commercial traction” after its release last year, confirming that the game had sold over 1 million copies since its release, generating “more than [$35.1] million in revenue.” The company went on to state that they believe the IP can “enhance the Group’s ability to make timely decisions regarding its future development and related investments.”
Digital Bros. is undoubtedly less familiar with gamers than 505 Games, a subsidy of the company where they do most of their publishing. Titles published under 505 include Dead by Daylight, Death Stranding, Assetto Corsa, and Control (though the rights were sold back to Remedy in 2024). The publisher is also involved with Nivalis, the cyberpunk bartending spin-off of Cloudpunk, which I would really love a release date for.
