Resident Evil Requiem Gets New Leon Must Die Forever Mode

Capcom has released a new roguelike mode for Resident Evil Requiem, starring everybody’s favorite Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, taking on new challenges. This is the mode that Requiem director Koshi Nakabishi had previously hinted was coming in May, which fans of the series had assumed would be the series’s traditional Mercenaries mode. Players spotted and updated overnight, adding the mode, entitled “Leon Must Die Forever“, dropping first on PlayStation and PC.

Leon Must Die Forever is a roguelike set of levels featuring enemies and environments familiar to those who have played the main game, with the player getting random weapons and abilities. The ultimate goal of each stage, besides just survival, is to reach Victor, who awaits at the end of each level as the final boss.

The levels have a rogue chronological order to them, so the first takes place in Wrenwood on the main street. Then Leon travels to the Care Center before heading over to Raccoon City. As you progress through the levels, the caliber of the enemy you encounter will increase, naturally, but by completing challenges, you will gain points to trade to get better gear for Leon. Death is permanent, as the mode warns, but there are more than one difficulty for players to find the right challenge for them.

As a Capcom blurb for the mode states:

Grace made it home safely, but Leon still has work to do. Use his enhanced abilities to complete this minigame as fast as possible.

As was previously stated by Capcom, this new mode is only available to players who have completed the main campaign, which most likely isn’t a hurdle anymore for most players. Once you have done this and installed the update, the mode will appear in the main menu, ready for you to play.

Due to the secrecy behind the mode, many players assumed this would be some version of the popular Mercenaries mode, a horde mode, though looking back, if that was the case, maybe they wouldn’t have been so tight-lipped. This sounds like a fun mode all the same, but for players who were hoping for Mercinaries, it does not appear plans exist currently.

This is not the end for Resident Evil Requiem, however. A new major story add-on is in development for the game, though this is also shrouded in some secrecy. Will Players take on the role of Leon, sometimes ally Ada Wong? Will this be a continuation of Grace of Leon’s narratives? Or, could we get a brand new character as we did with Rose in Resident Evil VIII? The DLC was suggested to be in early development, so it might be a while till we get our answers.
