According to a new leak, Star Wars Zero Company, the XCOM-style turn-based strategy game from developer Bit Reactor, will launch later this year. This news comes from Dealabs Billbil-kun, who is typically accurate about these things, and who stated that the game will release on August 27, avoiding a very busy September, thanks in part to the recent State of Play, while also keeping some distance from the November release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
This leak comes only a day before Summer Games Fest, which has to some degree replaced the E3 showcases of the summer, where this news will be, according to the leak, officially confirmed. During the event, Star Wars Zero Company will supposedly have a gameplay trailer that will be showcased. What we now seem to know is that the game will release with a standard version for $49.99 and a digital deluxe edition for $59.99. We do not have a confirmation of what will be featured in that digital deluxe, though it has been suggested that early access will not be on offer.
Bit Reactor, the developer behind the title, is made up of veterens that have previously worked on the XCOM series, as well as Marvel’s Midnight Suns. They are being assisted on the project by Jedi: Fallen Order and Titanfall developer Respawn, with EA acting as publisher. There was a trailer previously released, confirming that the title is set during the Clone Wars, and suggesting at least one lightsaber-wielding character. While some gameplay is featured, it is a very minimal part of the overall trailer.
Now that the game appears locked in for August, there should actually be time for me to play it. Once September rolls around, the likes of Marvel’s Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword appear set to consume many players’ lines, including myself.
