Square Enix announced a new Final Fantasy spin-off during the Nintendo Direct event held in June 2026. Final Fantasy Resonance, which will release later this year and adapts the first season of the Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius mobile game, which was closed in 2024 for most of the world and 2025 for Japan. It will also include some content that was featured in updates to that game, as well as new story content exclusive to this version. To be clear, this is not a full port or remake, but instead uses the mobile game’s plot as a foundation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbsfQYI_IIY What’s…
A new title in the Xenoblade series was announced during the Nintendo Direct event in June 2026, though interestingly enough, it will drop Chronicles from the title, offering a new direction in the series. Xenoblade Genesis, as it was titled, is set to release sometime in 2027, though no official release date was given for us during the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttLdz0wGjmc While Xenoblade Genesis has a familiar sense of fantasy to previous entries in the series, it appears to embrace a more traditional fantasy setting rather than the blend of fantasy and technology that is present in other entries. We get…
After 4 years of absence since its announcement trailer, players were finally given a new look at Kingdom Hearts IV during the June Nintendo Direct. While unfortunately this news did not come with an official release date, we did learn that the title will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the day and date of its release, continuing the strong push by Square Enix to be more multiplatform oriented. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j151ek2rYs0 The trailer returns us to the very modern city (with some similarities to Tokyo) we saw in the announcement trailer, giving us a continued look at Sora fighting…
During the latest Nintendo Direct, held on June 9th, we finally received a deeper look at the latest entry in the Fire Emblem series, entitled Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. We also finally got an official release date for the title, having previously known it was planned for a release sometime this year as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl5_C4sc5zk The trailer highlighted the city of Daxion, where much of the narrative will be set, as the city plays host to a tournament known as the heroic games. Unlike the typical format, players will not control a slightly customizable protagonist; instead,…
1666 Amsterdam was one of the more intriguing games to come out of Summer Games Fest. Then again, I always gravitate towards the antithesis to the norm anyway, so there was never a world where this wasn’t on my radar. Promise me a demo that night, and I probably will download it and not get to, but I will constantly think about what it would be like trying it out. Thankfully, point one for 1666 Amsterdam, the pull was too strong. Developer Panche Digital Games was speaking my language, and so here we are. Funny enough, for a game with…
Persona 4 Revival, the remake of the 2008 PlayStation 2 game from Atlus, received a new trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase. In addition to this, we finally got a date for when we will be able to tune into the midnight channel yet again with the Investigation team. Persona 4 Revival will release on February 18, 2027, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1osdiOAkBKc Persona 4 Revival put the player in the shoes of Yu Narukami, who has just arrived in the town of Inaba to finish out the rest of his school year…
During the Xbox Games Showcase, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, a sequel to their 2023 action RPG set during the fall of the Hans Dynasty, shortly before the Three Kingdoms period. The timing of this announcement makes sense, given that the studio had both Nioh 3 and Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly releasing earlier this year, with Wo Long being of a similar nature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRTPi-3BhJM The first and most noticeable element in the trailer is the scope of the areas that are showcased. Both previous games developed by Team Ninja, Rise of…
Once again, it is time for the game industry to come together and celebrate its future by unveiling a ton of new games and announcements at the Summer Games Fest. We have A LOT to get through, so without further delay, let’s jump into it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdNmVWXuYec Resident Evil Veronica Clair Redfield returns in the long-awaited remake of the 2000 Dreamcast title, now known as Resident Evil: Veronica. The trailer didn’t give us much to work with, but it showcases Clair searching for her brother in a creepy Paris apartment, right before getting grabbed and held at knifepoint. We get some…
Fumito Ueda, the developer behind classic titles like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and most recently 2016’s The Last Guardian, showcased a new trailer for his upcoming game being developed by genDESIGN. Previously announced during the Video Game Awards in 2024 as Project Robot, the game now has the official title of gen Atlas. Similar to his previous games, the title appears to rely heavily on visual narrative, but a lot is going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etqFoXpIecw The game takes place on an open-world planet, vast but silent. Players take the role of a robot who must explore this world that is…
Coming as a surprise during the Summer Games Fest, a sequel to the fast-paced action title, Stellar Blade, was showcased and announced. Entitled Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, we knew that developer Shift Up was building towards a sequel after the success of the first one, but it wasn’t clear that we would be getting a look so soon. Shift Up has another title in development, known as Project Spirits, which is supposedly aiming for a 2027 release date, which would have made sense as the project to be showcased. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv5cIh3n-iU While it was confirmed that Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is,…
