Only a few weeks after the new IP Pragmata was crossing the impressive milestone of one million copies sold, this was in just two days, mind you, the game has crossed another threshold. Capcom has announced through another sales update that the title has now crossed the two million copies sold milestone in only sixteen days. In the announcement, Capcom attributed this success to marketing initiatives such as making a Playable Demo available, along with an aggressive campaign to boost the visibility of a new IP.
The developer has also stated that they believe the emotional, narrative-driven story, along with the “unique” gameplay elements, have helped solidify Pragmata‘s position in Capcom’s portfolio amid their juggernaut franchises like Resident Evil, which has also had an extremely good showing this year with the release of Resident Evil Requiem in February.
Capcom USA Cheif Operating Officer, Rod Dyer, recently teased what is starting to look inevitable, given the sales numbers, that Pragmata could be spun out into a multi-title franchise. As reported by Game File, Dyer revealed at the most recent iicon event (a conference held for video game company leaders from the people who once hosted the annual E3 event) that despite a lengthy six-year development cycle and several delays, the end product was “worth the effort.” I would imagine that timeframe could be cut down for future entries as well.
Dyer stated:
We’re to a point now where we’ve got another IP that Capcom — and god bless them, has an arsenal — that we can continue to go down.
Pragmata is a science fiction adventure set on a Lunar colony, focusing on the relationship between spaceman Hugh and robotic child Diana. The game has an interesting take on third-person gunplay where the player must hack enemies through a minigame thanks to Diana’s abilities, before Hugh can shoot their weak points.
